Regional Contextualisation in Architecture, Ljubljana, Slovenia

September 19, 2025

As part of the RCA conference, the roundtable “SAFE, Inclusive, and Accessible Open Public Space” took place in the Plečnik Lecture Room at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana. The discussion brought together experts from the fields of architecture, urban planning, and disability advocacy, including representatives from the Faculty of Architecture, the Geodetic Institute of Slovenia, the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, and the National Council of Disability Organisations of Slovenia.

The roundtable focused on the question of how awareness of safety, accessibility, diversity, and inclusion shapes spatial identity in contemporary and future architecture. Participants explored the complex relationship between urban security, environmental justice, and inclusive design, highlighting the importance of spaces that foster belonging, participation, and well-being for all users.

Within this context, the SAFE Project was also presented as an example of how research and practice can contribute to creating safer and more inclusive urban environments.
